Why you need an experienced facilitator.
Planning takes planning.
And it needs the right people
involved to be successful.

Planning workshops take a lot of planning to be effective.
Many people think they can simply set aside a day, book an appropriate off-site venue, invite their staff and board, organise refreshments, and then magic will happen.
If only life were so simple.
I recently spoke with a CEO who was doing a planning workshop where the operational staff were to be present for half the day and then the Board and Management for the other half. The input from the morning staff session was supposed to inform the planning for the rest of the day.
And BTW, the purpose of the day was to come up with a 5-year strategic plan!!
An ambitious plan at the best of times, even more so when they did not engage an experienced facilitator and did no consultation before the planning day.
An experienced facilitator will be realistic about what a workshop can achieve and importantly guide you through a process to best achieve the desired results.
They will be a good listener, an objective voice at the table, an experienced hand at dealing with conflict, and adept at focusing on solving problems and keeping the group on task.
And that is why you need an experienced facilitator.
